  • What does the retatrutide research show?

Retatrutide now has pivotal Phase 3 human efficacy data in addition to its Phase 2 obesity and MASLD trials, though it remains investigational and is not approved in any jurisdiction. The research-grade material supplied for laboratory use is unapproved laboratory material, not the finished pharmaceutical studied in these trials.

    Retatrutide evidence at a glance

    Evidence tier
Tier 1 — supported by randomized, controlled human trials.
    Research status
Investigational; not approved as a medicine in any jurisdiction.
    Primary research area
    Metabolic / body-composition and hepatic (liver-fat) research.
    Purity (research material)
    >99% HPLC, independently verified per batch.
    Half-life
~6 days — supports once-weekly research dosing schedules in published protocols.

    The trial programme so far

The Phase 2 obesity trial (NEJM, 2023) reported 24.2% mean body-weight reduction at 48 weeks with the 12 mg dose, with more than 90% of participants achieving a 10%+ reduction. The glucagon-receptor arm uniquely drives hepatic energy expenditure and thermogenesis, with up to 82.4% liver-fat reduction reported in MASLD studies (Nature Medicine, 2024).

The pivotal Phase 3 trial TRIUMPH-1 (2025) reported 28.3% mean weight reduction at 80 weeks with the 12 mg dose — 45.3% of participants achieving ≥30% — and up to 30.3% at 104 weeks in a higher-BMI extension cohort. HbA1c reductions of 1.3-2.0% have been reported in type 2 diabetes research with concurrent weight loss of up to 16.9%.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is retatrutide FDA approved?

No. Retatrutide is still in clinical trials and is not approved by the FDA, EMA, or any other regulator. Retatrutide is an unapproved, research-grade lyophilised powder.

    Is retatrutide safe?

Retatrutide is investigational; its safety is still being characterised in clinical trials and is not established for general use. Research-grade retatrutide is not a sterile approved medicine and carries no human safety assurances.
